“It is not the actual physical exertion that counts toward a man’s progress, nor the nature of the task, but the spirit of faith with which it is undertaken.”

– St. Francis Xavier

Shamone Malbrough is the Physical Education teacher, computer teacher for Kindergarten-2nd Grade, Girls Athletic Director, and 7th Grade boys basketball coach at Holy Spirit School. Mrs. Malbrough was born in San Francisco and spent her elementary years in Inglewood, California before moving to Vallejo at 14 years old. While a student at Vallejo High School, she played basketball and ran track. After high school, Mrs. Malbrough went on to play basketball at Solano Community College, and later earned a full scholarship to play ball at Northern Arizona University. After completing her basketball career, Mrs. Malbrough went on to get her degree while coaching for the Lumberjacks. She then returned to Vallejo and coached at Solano Community College and Vallejo High, and taught at Holy Spirit. Mrs. Malbrough has been inducted into the Solano Community College Hall of Fame (1999) and the Vallejo Hall of Fame (2018).

Mrs. Malbrough feels that working at Holy Spirit is “a joy and especially rewarding” and that she enjoys seeing “students mature and develop social and life skills that help nurture them into their adult life.” She follows the Diocese of Sacramento’s physical education guidelines that focus on movement skills, manipulative skills, health and performance skills, social development, and self-image. Mrs. Malbrough loves working “with students on different skill levels that they might be struggling with in class” and “helping students work and build confidence in themselves to accomplish their goals.” She also notes that “it’s extremely rewarding to see students blossom throughout the school year.” Mrs. Malbrough particularly enjoys the dance unit at the mid-point of the school year where 6-8th Graders learn how to ballroom, salsa, and line dance.

Mrs. Malbrough is married and has two sons, both of whom attend Holy Spirit School.
