Technology
Technology in the classroom is important for many reasons - primary among them are that technology creates a more engaging environment for students, allows teachers to incorporate different learning styles more easily, prepares children for the future, and connects teachers with students. Additionally, technology helps students develop personal and social responsibility, critical thinking and decision-making skills, communication skills, and cross-cultural understanding.
Recognizing this importance and these benefits, Holy Spirit School students:
- Are in the computer lab one day a week
- Are split into smaller groups for computer lab (half of the class at a time for more personal attention)
- Grades K-3 currently use desktop computers to aid in familiarity and competence with keyboarding
- Grades 4-8 currently use Dell tablets
This year, Holy Spirit School’s generous families and friends contributed funds for technology enhancements to improve instruction at our school and maintain technology leadership among area schools. These enhancements will be rolled out over a three-year period, starting in 2023:
- iPads will be rolled out to 1 middle school Grade per year
- To ensure that they develop adequate typing skills, Chromebooks will be rolled out to one Grade 3, 4, and 5 class per year
- Grades K, 1, and 2 will receive a class set of Chromebooks to share
- 2 classrooms per year will receive a device that will allow teachers to seamlessly cast from their computer to a large screen that doubles as a whiteboard and a TV (smartboard)
